My Google traffic for new posts improved a little because my XML site map plugin pings Google whenever an article is published but it is hardly noticeable. I only do that to benefit my readers. Though, I read somewhere that if you are going to submit to Digg or other social voting sites, its is a good idea to submit as early as possible. This will improve your chances of getting more votes and making it to their front pages.
