Hi, I did a minimalistic project to test sfGuard features here: http://tech.cibul.org/a-really-simple-sfguard-with-user-profile-setup/

Hi John,

To provide privileges to an Editor for a certain category is easy enough. But each writer should only be able to edit their own posts. If I have general credentials like that of the Editor, then any writer in the same category would be able to Edit the post.

Ultimately, what I was trying to get across in this post was the need for very fine grained application privileges i.e at the object level.

Maybe I'm missing it but in your example above why couldn't you for example create groups for Politics, Crime, Entertainment, Health, Tech and Travel (ripped straight from CNN) and then say if user xyz is a Editor AND a member of the politics group allow edits to the politics "section" otherwise deny the request?

Yeah - thats an excellent Idea.

Trouble is - the lines of "I am being paid to do this" and "open source in the enterprise" are not ones that are crossed often.

I'll write a post about this sometime - but essentially firms are of the rightfully selfish mindset of "I am not giving away what I have just paid for"...

Have you ever tried to push your company to release their product as open source?

pangkalizer> hi, what about providing your changes to sfGuardPlugin as contribution to the plugin or at leaast as a unofficial patch? I think there are more people who need more complex securing their applications (as me :) and have same dilema as mcnicholl... thx
